Laptop for mechanical engineering

Hello,

 

For next year I need a laptop for mechanical engineering and we are going to use solidworks. 

School recommends core quadro or firepro or a gtx 900 series.

I know the gtx 900 series is a bit old so i would go with a gtx 1060.

Now i have found 2 laptops to choose from: The HP Zbook 15v G5 with a qaudro p600 or HP Pavilion Gaming 15-cx0500nd which has a 1060.

Which one do you think I should go with, or should I choose neither of those and do you recommend anything else?

Since you are doing rendering with 3d stuff and you need a powerful workstation gpu, and you aren't going to really game with it. I actually read that wrong, you should go with the GTX 1060 instead. I thought you were saying the Quadro P6000, which would have been way much better than the 1060.

The first word in the thread title says laptop, there is no P6000 for laptops.

OP, I'd suggest looking at second hand workstations since the Quadro P600 found on the laptop you're looking at is about as strong as a GT 1030.

Are there any ultrabooks you can buy new at my budget of 1400 which can run solidworks? In that case I would have to take a look into it.

I dont like the looks of the HP Omen. I don't want to game on it.

The lenovo yoga looks really good and I can buy it with student discount. but do you think a 1050 4g is good enough for solidworks?

For solidworks that is not true. P600 / K600 or the 600 runs Solidworks pretty good on a desktop and a 680 gtx have abysmal performance 10-15 fps on solidworks. 1030 GT is way way below a 680 gtx
