out of the 4 options given i would personally choose the Asus Rog Zephyrus (gm501) (unless video or picture editing is going to be used in which case i think the dell has a 4k display where the rest seem to be 1080p)

don't get me wrong the Asus is a bit overpowered but i have found touch screens degrade performance by a bit and the MSI's keyboard is a bit weird especially when typing / taking notes (i do love the MSI designs)

also if it is in your price range to my understanding i still think Acer holds the crown for best laptops with some of the higher end predator laptops reigning supreme

i do video editing and photo work for my dad's band on the side, the Asus is a bit overpowered. i was leaning more to the XPS because its a bit more understated and looks less "Gamer". if i was to go with the XPS i might go for the next model down with the same CPU and 8gb of ram and then upgrade the ram later on. plus that one doesn't have a touch screen which might help the performance.

true true, yeah but that extra performance is there if needed, i personally with my next build (hopefully the end of the year) will be an 19 12 core with a 1080ti (unless the new ones look better performance wise) and i will only be running 2 1080p monitors but when the performance is needed i know it's there and the computer can shine, which if you are going to do video editing a higher end i7 with more ram and a smaller GPU will be better than a i5, 8gb ram and a 1060 as video editing uses more CPU and the super fast ram  where as single core tasks will generally make better use of a bigger GPU

For my daily use it would certainly be more CPU and RAM usage as compiling code is more focused towards those components. Plus with a company like Dell or Microsoft i can get student discounts, save a few hundred dollars and put that towards something else.
