Civ 5 help

So I am pretty new to RTSs in general usually play at Prince through emperor
Here are my areas of concern with game
(plays liberty, grounds scientists, engineers and merchants uses artists and musicians either for cultural expanse or great wonders)
Negative gold for more than half the game

Negative happiness

Can't use spies properly
