Pcie slot broken?

Hello 

I've recently bought a older motherboard ram and cpu combo. When i tried plugging my gpu in the fans onto he gpu started to spin, but there was no output on the card. I've tried everything from a bios update to cleaning the card and slot with alcohol. If somebody could tell me if my cards broken or if it is my slot that would be great. 

 

SPECS 

I5 2400

Unknown Intel mobo

8gb of ddr3

Gtx 780

Thermaltake trs2 600 Watt psu

Are you plugging your display into the motherboard or the GPU?

Do you have proper power cables for the GPU?
