Raid 0 and 1

I want to do raid 0 with 2 ssd but my question is if I do that can I do raid 1 with another drive and the two ssd (while they are in raid o)?

 

If yes will the raid 1 will cancel out the speed benefit of the raid 0 (if the drive is slower than the raid 0 ssds)?

 

Do I need special hardware to do raids?

 

(It doesn't matter why I want to that, it's complicated)

Yes, RAID1 will be as slow as the slowest drive in it.

No, software-RAID is perfectly viable.

Just for informative purposes - what you are talking about is RAID 10.

Software RAID is fine, the speed boost from hardware RAID is pretty small and not that special for normal users.

Even so if you want to use Raid 0 for speed , make sure the controller can handle higher speeds.

i did this as well and the speed of the controller was the bottleneck..

No, he's not.

As he wants to RAID 1 a RAID 0 with a single drive.

 

ANd that's pretty bullshit, though that's RAID with SSDs as it increases the latency...

 

For more Performance there are PCIe SSDs like the Samsung 960 EVO.

Oh, thought it was possible, as RAID 10 is pretty much just RAID 1 and RAID 0 together. Thanks for the correction.
