AMD gpu that can run Overwatch on Ultra?

Ashleyyyy

so i want to buy an AMD graphics card that i can use to play Overwatch at 60fps 1080p ultra settings. the RX460 i have now isn't quite good enough.

it HAS to be AMD because i'm going to use it for pci-e passthrough, and amd rivers work better in a virtual machine.

i prefer an older card i can buy used, because the second hand market where i live is very good, and i can get some good deals usually.

the rest of my specs are in my signature.

Stepping back a gen, you can probably get a R9 290X for pretty cheap.

the 290x is a lot faster.

ok then. i have a choice of a reference design, you know the single fan blower design, or an MSI twin-frozr for a bit more. which one do i go with?

the 290x runs HOT... and i mean the surface of the sun looks cold in comparison.  the Frozr is the one to go for if you still intend to have ear drums.

Edit - Used to own one.  Gaming for an hour would rasie the temp in the office by 5 degrees C.

oh yeah i know about that. i run loads of crap in the background too and like even with just the 780Ti the area around my pc is just hot... but that's what i get with 2 6-core Xeons running too...

You can get a r9 fury for 230$ if you want a 15% increase in perf and a free space heater

if i add the R9 290X i'm at the limit of what i consider to be safe wattage keeping in mind i have an 860W psu..

and if you mean a Fury X those are €100 more here.

oh well... i don't really care about that. as long as i can run Overwatch on ultra 60fps 1080p i'm fine with it. everything else i play is fine even on something like a GTX 1050...

A 290X isn't bad but they double as a space heater and power hog.

Intel Core i7-8700K @ 4.8GHz | Corsair H110i GTX | EVGA RTX 2080 XC | Asus ROG Maximus XI | Intel M.2 nVME SSD 1TB | Samsung 850 EVO 2X2TB | 32GB G.SKILL Trident Z 3200MHz CL14 RAM | EVGA SuperNova GS 1050W | Kept cool & quiet in a Fractal Design Define R5 Window with all Noctua fans

I can confirm that an RX 580 8GB will do it.

I run at 2560x1080 at 75hz on ultra and I don't dip.

EDIT: WIth that said, a 290X is a faster card IIRC, so it should be fine.

Only a recommended action. If you only need 60 FPS and enjoy tinkering, under volt your card.
