Hey Ltt community!

So I moved to a new place yesterday and got new internet. We got the lowest plan from spectrum to start, but when I got there the wifi signal was awful in my room (where my pc is) and I was getting like 900 ping. Ive since switched to ethernet, however I still get 120 ping in rocket league. How do I fix this? Will upgrading the internet help or is this a lost cause? Thanks

Just the one spectrum gave us. It's a Arris TM1602

That would explain some of it then.

The Arris TM1602 uses the Intel Puma 6 chipset which is notorious for problems like a lot of added latency. I would suggest buying your own modem like the SB6183 or something that doesn't have the Puma6 chipset inside of it.

As for some of the other added latency though, that could just be down to the cable line itself and noise on that coming into the modem/building/etc.

Edit:

Just make sure that the modem you buy is on their list of approved ones (not sure on that one specifically) because Spectrum is VERY particular about can and can not be used.

Edit: Call and confirm with them for whatever modem you are looking at, but here is a listing of their "approved" modems as of June 2018.

I've used the SB6183 so I know that's approved.
