Gpu upgrade.

Friend just bought monster hunter world on pc and is having trouble cause he has a gt 640 gpu. Wants to upgrade, we recommended him a 1050ti however he has an old/crappy/untrustworthy 470w power supply. I was afraid that the psu could pose a problem. Other specs are an i7-3770 8gigs ram. Is the psu going to handle it or is there a chance that  problems will occur?

I think 470W is enough for that card.

That CPU uses 77W and the GPU uses 75W as far as the specs I saw are correct.

yes it will supply the power needed for that card.

It should be fine, 1050ti draws power only from the pcie slot so it can use only up to 75 watts.

Yeah the 1050 ti would be an upgrade but later down the line a psu upgrade would be nice, reccommend corsair CX550 or TXM line

Thanks for the help. I wanted to see some opinions on this as my friend is not informed on the natter and is insecure about his pc dying and wasting money.

if you were concerned about reliability (which you should be with an old PSU) then consider the gt 1030 gddr5 variant and using the leftover cash to buy a new power supply. Ebay is also recommended for getting a good graphics card.

Oh yes 470 is plenty. I jave i7 7700 and gtx 1060 and have 450w psu.
