If he upgrades to any of the quad core CPUs on that platform he'll be fine.

dual core is going to really suck in some games, or just straight not work.

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Yeah, that CPU is really weak. It will bottleneck even a 750ti very bad. If you are willing to invest some money in the FM2 platform you could get a Athlon X4 880K. It won't make your system substantially better, but it will minimize the bottleneck.

Are there any other quad core FM2/FM2+ CPUs in a lower price range?

All/Any of them preferably newer of course, just look for used ones, they're like $20-30 on ebay here anyways. Anything A8/A10 or X4 8xx is fine

The FM2+ has a slightly different pin configuration to Socket FM2 with two additional pin sockets. Socket FM2+ APUs are not compatible with Socket FM2 motherboards due to the aforementioned additional pins. However, socket FM2 APUs such as "Richland" and "Trinity" are compatible with the FM2+ socket.[1]

It's not certain that they have an FM2+ board.

Hello, a family member of mine built a PC (with used parts) and to me at least there seemed like there would be CPU bottlenecking.

GPU - 750 TI

CPU - AMD A4 5300 ~ 3.7 Ghz

Will there be any obvious bottlenecking?

Does he have both components already? If yes, then I suggest trying it out with the games he will be playing first. The A4-5300 is really weak, even weaker than the Intel Pentium G2020 way back. Though I've once paired a G2020 with a GTX 750 Ti, and the CPU usage is between 50 to 80% depending on the game. With this info, I still think that the A4-5300 would bottleneck the GTX 750 Ti, in some cases, but not severely.

said you might need an FM2 CPU if the board is FM2

Anything 5000 or 6000 will work in that case or althon X4 750K

Just checked, the motherboard is indeed an FM2. I thought it was FM2+, but nope.

Yes, both components are on board. My guess is that they'll keep with the parts until a time for upgrade. I think right now the most important is cooling as the singular case fan isn't really doing anything.

btw, the rig was made of used components, some of which was already at hand, and some which were needed to buy.
