Hello, :D

So my brother got a slight upgrade from his old desktop, and instead of buying a switch, I wanted to upgrade his old pc. Does this pc build upgrade look any good, or should I "switch" it. (Couldn't help my self XD)

He has these parts im going to salvage (His PC is like 5 years old)

Thermaltake V3 Black Editon case

500 Watt PSU (Not 80+)

750 gb hhd

120 ssd

Recently bought CPU Fan (Year old maybe)

(Parts I want to replace)

AMD FX (I'm too lazy to check what it is)

Some sort of motherboard

8gb of DDR2 (Dont know what type of ddr)

old gpu

This is what i want to put into it

Core I5 6600 $75

16gb DDR3 Ram $0 Comes with the core (Thanks Friend)

Asus LGA1511 B150m C D3 $42 (2 or more pins are bent, but i probably can fix it LINUS STYLE)

Asrock RX 580 8gb $220 (Plus comes with a 150 dollar gift card for amd :D)

I wanted to keep this upgrade under 300 Dollars, (And i saved up 50 extra dollars, so i  decided to get a new gpu)

Does this upgrade look good?

Ok, but if it wasnt a ticking time bomb, would 500 watts be enough? or no

Should be good with an intel processor. If you had the FX with the RX 580 you might not be able to handle it. That old HDD might go at some point too and you'll be surprised how fast you can fill up a 1 TB drive.

But What would happen if i used a not working 700 watt psu in my system?

An old crappy 700W supply is not a good option, and you haven't given much insight to prove otherwise. A crappy 550W supply is also not a good option.

Almost any modern computer can run EASILY off a 400W PSU.

Get something like a BeQuiet PurePower 10 400 (including the CM vairent), Corsiar CX450 or 450M, Coolermaster Master Watt 450 (Not Lite), or Antec Earthwatts Pro.
