SATA short question

A few of my SATA ports shorted on a new board I bought and messed up my drives which is eh ok since its a new build.  My question is, could the shorts have hurt my graphics card?

what do you mean they shorted ? you sprinkle them with metal shreds ? are they working ? it could fry chipset, but not really a graphics cards, unless you shorted it with neon transformer

Some boards have SATA ports that share bandwidth, are you sure they're just not working because something else is plugged in somewhere else?  It's kind of hard to short out a sata port without the entire motherboard being dead.

The short would've burnt up something along the path between the port and ground, so the likely answer is no.

Lol, I bought and AsRock, but yeah idk, I turned it on and my ram lit up like normal, and the fans on my graphics and cpu spun but there was no display.  Then I found one of the SATA cables literally smoking, so I turned it off and look at the SATA ports and found shorts on a few of them.  Its my own fault for buying such a crappy board though.

Uhm, RMA that board.  Don't continue using it.  A cheap board doesn't mean it will do that, just means it's lacking features and may not last as long as more durable ones.  Like a cheap car doesn't mean it'll blow up while driving.

 

Get a replacement ASAP.

don't get an MSI am4 board, most of the suck, asrocks b-350(M or non m) pro 4 are great boards.
