This is kind of a long story, but I’ll try and keep it as short as possible. A year and a half ago I bought an i7-6700K because it was on a big-time discount. Earlier this year I got an MSI z270 board with corsair vengeance RAM to finally put it all together. I failed miserably. BSOD hell when trying to install Windows 7. I gave up and returned the Mobo and RAM.

Last week I decided to try and build a PC again, but am now stuck in the exact same place. I’m unable to install Windows 7 because of repeated BSOD. Here are the components:

Asrock Z270 Taichi

Core i7-6700K (same as 1st attempt)

Corsair Vengeance 16GB (8x2) from approved Asrock list

Samsung SSD

Troubleshooting steps attempted:

Tried both RAM stick individually in all RAM slots

2.     Tried installing Windows with USB stick AND official Windows DVD

3.     Lowered speed of RAM from default 3000 to 2133

4.     Turned XMP off and back on again

5.     Cleared CMOS repeatedly

I have a hard time believing that I got two bad Mobos or RAM in two different attempts at different times of the year. I’ve read countless threads in various forums, but none of the solutions have helped me. I’m feeling pretty defeated right now, and am very close to giving up.

Here are some picture of the BSOD I’m getting, along with some of the visual weirdness I get when trying to install Windows 7. The one BSOD I couldn't get a picture of said something like BAD_POOL_CALLER.

That's an 8-bit video output...

Are you using onboard graphics?

Does it happen to Windows 7 only?

I only have Windows 7 installation media at the moment.

how far do you get in the installation before it bsod?

I am able to start the installation, select and format the disk I want to install to. Windows then begins installing and goes through a list adding green checkmarks. I'm able to get to the last item on the list, Completing Installation..., where I get the BSOD.

Yes, I'm using the onboard graphics. I took out the video card and any other unnecessary parts to try and narrow down what's going wrong.

"*To install Windows® 7 OS, a modified installation disk with xHCI drivers packed into the ISO file is required. Please check our User Manual for more detailed instructions. "

If you're using stock Windows 7 Media that might be part of your issue. Microsoft allows you to download a more up-to-date Windows 7 ISO. You'll likely need that in order to successfully install Windows 7. As noted above for your motherboard, you'll also need to slipstream in your xHCI drivers.

then the chipset is not compatible with windows 7

download the windows 10 iso and try that, it should install without any problem

ps. you can use windows 10 without a serial # but you can't change the wallpaper

So I found an extra USB stick and installed Windows 10 on it with the creation tool that Microsoft provides. Somehow it's worse. The PC boots and gets to the Windows 10 logo with a spinning circle underneath. Once it finishes loading it immediately blue screens and reboots.

This happens so fast that I'm unable to see the description it's supposed to give you when this happens. Can't take a picture either since it's so fast. :(
