1. Budget & Location

Somewhere around $1200 U.S. total. I have some parts picked out here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/scottyy/saved/9VDxGX

I have already bought the case, motherboard, power supply, CPU Cooler, and the hard drive. I also have an old M.2 Laptop SSD (128GB) that should fit in the MOBO but have not checked to confirm yet that it fits or that the SSD still works (old Sager custom build was dropped on the corner of a desk and will not fully boot up, no screen display, suspecting a GPU or MOBO issue).

2. Aim

I'm looking to use this as somewhat of a video editor/light streaming machine/gaming machine. Essentially a jack of all trades master of nothing. It will primarily be used for gaming and I don't plan on setting up a stream for a while and video editing will be done for work and is not the most important for this since I can get it done on my Surface Pro. Some game examples would be: Witcher 3, Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online, Smite, Monster Hunter. I play pretty much any genre of game. I can live with playing some games at a lower quality and don't need the best quality in all of these games. I would prefer frames per second to be at least 60+ however.

I would like some guidance to decide if the build I'm looking at will not only work, but work well. For example, I'm a little flexible on money and would be willing to pay an extra $100 for a GPU if it means a large step up in performance.

3. Monitors

I have one monitor at 144hz and dont think I will add a second one anytime soon. I will have to update this thread with the exact model. I do not believe it is 4k.

4. Peripherals

Keyboard is Corsair, I have a few Razer mice, I have a stereo system as well as a headset.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I have not had a desktop computer in many years, I loved building and taking them apart in my high school classes years ago and I need something a step up from my work Surface Pro. I also want to play some video games with my friends at a slightly above average competitive level.

Thanks guys! Let me know if you need any other information and I will update as soon as I get home today.

If you're streaming, you will want at least one other monitor. Ryzen might also be a better option due to more cores and threads at your disposal.

Ryzen 2600 would suit you.

I'd try to squeeze an i7 into the budget for hyperthreading. Maybe look at getting a used gtx 1070/1080 for really cheap instead of buying it new. The mining craze is over so the used markets are littered with gpus. If you really want a new gpu then I'd wait for the new cards to come out.

Damn... Stuck with intel i guess...

Well if he wanna get serious with video editing, i5 is a bad choice (6 threads max).

That's why R5 2600 would be a better choice for the same money.

It would not beat i5 in games, but hell would beat it in many other.

Since he already have an ssd, why not use it as the main drive.
Skip the crap Team F5 and go with a i7.

Ok so I updated the build to include an i7-8700 Coffee Lake 6-core @ 3.2ghz instead of an i5 and will look for a used GPU. Any specific direction I should be going in? Like I think PCPartPicker was having me buy a MTI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Armor. Is the GTX Ti still the card I should be looking for?
