A few months ago my friend came to me asking for help building a computer, I gladly accepted. He then went on to tell me that he wants the computer to hang on the wall in the same manner as one he found on Reddit. This seemed like a massive task because it was my first build and his also. The log he was inspired by is this one:[Gallery / Build Log] Ultimate Wall Mount Rig - MAXXPlanck V2 (Completed)

I spent hours looking over every part of this system trying to figure out how to recreate it. First off we decided that there will be no water cooling due to the large cost and mounting difficulty; furthermore, he chose to make more simple system to keep the size down. That decision was one of the best. The lighting would've also been very hard to recreate so we ended up with small amounts of ambient light.

The system specs are as follows:

-Core i5 4670k OC’d to 4.4Ghz

-Gigabyte GTX 770 2Gb OC Version

-WD 1TB Caviar Black

-MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Motherboard

-EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650G

-8GB 1600 G.Skill Rip Jaws

This is our build log, tell us what you think! Keep in mind that this is our first ever build.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Some of the components arrived so the build will begin tomorrow with a trip to Home Depot.

- The system is ready for windows installation.

-Of course windows had to be complicated for random reasons! Can't wait until the proper HDD comes in.

-The lights and extensions are in finally! Now we just need the HDD and the PCIe riser cable.

-The board has been lain out and is ready for assembly.

-The rear frame that we are using to hang is completed finally.

post-27226-0-80643200-1388466584_thumb.j

-The first two components are mounted and the rest will be simple.

-The build is finally together and it looks pretty good in our opinion!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the build came along quite nice. It was our first build so I am very excited with the outcome.

The machine runs BF4 on ultimate by default. I can try to put up more pictures and benchmark scores in the future if that is what you guys would like.

This build log is very close to LinusTechTips because of how much the channel has influenced it's progress. I personally watch every video put out on the channel just in hopes that one day I can build a system of my own, but for now I am perfectly fine with helping out friends! With out Linus Media Group, this build would have been much harder. We used everything from Linus' unboxings to his build and overclocking guides.

Let us know what you think and tell us if there is anything you specifically want to see!

The idea is very good. But remember this, it's gravity's rule: "What goes up, has to come down". Don't worry, it's cool :D

He's probably using some sort of a PCIe - Extender, basically a "cable" which you plug into the PCIe slot and connect the GPU to the other end. :)

Personally I wouldn't use such a big CPU cooler, but I'd look for a more low profile one.  Cool idea nonetheless, can't wait to see this continue :)

I am the friend and we accidentaly purchsaed too short of a riser, 250mm when we needed 500mm, so it wasnt hooked up in the pictures.  It is now though :)

That's what I figured but I didn't see it in the images lol.

What about the dust? You putting any clear covering over it so it doesn't get all nasty with the dust?

I had thought of that, but the price and effort to do so was too much. He is dusting it frequently and does live in a dust prone area. In the future the system will be moved to a case, so there is not a big concern for dust due to the fact that the system won't be on the wall any longer than a year.

Ok what exactly are you thinking putting felt not that other than that it looks great

The first thought was to put a vinyl sticker, but the cost of a good quality one was waaaayy too high. The  stickers are also a real pain to apply and we didn't want to risk messing up the build with a bubble. The "felt" is a fabric that is 100% polyester, so there shouldn't be any lint coming off of it. I do agree that a non-fabric material would have been better; however, the price and hassle was just too high.

  • 9 months later...

Good idea but what I would do is drop the massive CPU cooler and put on a Kraken x31 or x41 water cooling loop.
