Help with bottlenecks

I have an older AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor with 32gbs of ram and I recently got an RX580 8gb card that I use mainly for gaming but when I play games it runs them in DirectX 9 instead of 12 and the 32bit version even though I have a 64bit version of windows 10 pro is the CPU acting as a bottleneck for my graphics card? And also will upgrading to a Ryzen 7 2700x give much of a performance boost?  I am planning on doing that within the month.

Older games are DX9 and 32-bit, yes. Current games are all at least DX10 and higher and pretty much all AAA titles are 64-bit. The Phenom will botlleneck the 580, for sure, but this is not how you can tell.

That CPU is no good for an RX 580. You really need to change it to take advantage of your GPU at all.

64bit OS sure, but you said it's running 32bit and DX9 right? Unless the games are that old, this shouldnt be happening. I suppose some software went wrong, and reinstalling the OS is the fastest way to fix software problems.

It is called Black Squad and it is still in early access on steam.

Its 100% up to devs if the game uses 32 or 64 bit and DX 9/10/11/12 or OGL 4.3/4.4/4.5 or Vulkan.

That CPU is a HUGE limiting factor for game performance.  Expect ~2x performance or more in CPU limited games with Ryzen, even the lowly R5 1400.

ugh, then just wait for devs to fix things. Early access games use hardware power poorly most of the time.

Well it is better than the core 2 duo I had before this... but yeah... I cant run a lot of newer titles...

Core 2 Quad is on the same level of performance as Phenom II X4, Core 2 Duo is about the same as Phenom II X2.

FX is actually about the same performance per Ghz as well, it just clocks higher.

If you want to economize your upgrade, look for a Sandy Bridge (ex. i7-2600k), Ivy Bridge (ex. i7-3770k), or Haswell (ex. i7-4770k) CPU and appropriate motherboard.  These are as fast as it gets while still being able to use your current investment into DDR3.  Haswell in particular is about equal to Ryzen, core for core and ghz for ghz.

Also keep an eye out for their server counterparts (E3 12XX no V#/V2/V3), they work in normal desktop boards but have no integrated graphics.

I know what you are saying but I already have the DDR4 for my upgrade to modern tech lol :)

Yeah, 32gb of DDR4 is likely 50% of the cost of CPU/MB/RAM is why I was making the suggestion. xD
