Hey everyone I've got a Dell 7010 and its got fairly decent i guess specs for the gaming i generally do but I severely need to upgrade my graphics card. My set up is a core i5 3570 3.4Ghz, 16gb ddr3, stock dell mobo, evga 600w semi modular power supply and currently an asus gtx560ti. (you see my problem?) I'm not expecting earth shattering performance as I have a fairly old monitor with a seemingly now oddball res of 1600x900. i found a good deal on a gtx 1060 and I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on wether the setup would be decent for things like r6 siege, gta  V, and the odd moba or two and games like rust or raft. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

What's the price of that 1060? and if it's a 3GB model I probably wouldn't bother.

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

It's a 6gb for around $280~

That isn't a good deal at all if you're in the US

An RX 580 8GB is $239 right now, and gives you free-sync savings whenever you upgrade your display

oh my... but sure I guess go for it, you won't be bottlenecking anything seriously ( just a tiny bit maybe idk )  just for safe measures in the future upgrade your cpu to a i7 3770k theres a lot more performance involved if you do so even if theres bottlenecks or not.

My current code projects

--------------------------------

  • C#/OpenGL ( using OpenTK graphics library API ) KnightsRealm ( unfinished, WIP plan on releasing on steam maybe a mobile port idk ) 2d topdown pixel art based game with medieval themes, sorcery, dragons, open world
  • C++ crypter ( if your into cryptography, I plan on releasing this on my website later :P
  • C#/OpenGL ( OpenGL for UI ) fan/light controller for my room w/ raspberry pi and some mechanical motors and stuff :D

Current repair projects

------------------------------

  • My dreadful receiver ( a capacitor blew )
  • working on a PC from a client, CPU died within the system, seems like a short, replaced CPU and awaiting payment before I ship it back
  • my old 1tb sas drive for my NAS, some blemishes or something on the PCB need to clear that back out, if it doesn't work i'll need to scrap it ( already backed up all my stuff thankfully )

If you want any software made, or stuff to be repaired give me an email!

Eh. VRM is probably crap for overclocking, dunno if it's even a Z chipset.

Well i never really even considered an amd graphics card, honestly because i just dont like the way they look and from what i've seen it seems like they tend to run hotter than nvidia.

Not really no, under a gaming load the RX 580 is within 50W at stock, and probably equal with an undervolt, and an Nvidia G-sync display for adaptive refresh tech is usually $100 more than the free-sync version. Choice is pretty easy between those 2.

No point in buying a new motherboard for an old platform, better off just jumping on AM4 at that point, DDR4 is a bit of an issue though.

The i7 isn't worth it for gaming unless you're getting it for like $50.

All other lga 1155 cpu's are shit to be honest and even not even regarding the socket the processor in general is good for its price

That's the point, that i7 has to be really cheap to be worth the upgrade for gaming, some games don't even care about the extra threads.

Well the future

Is a different story like I said an i7 3770 is good for your build look up gameplay for it, it supports hyper threading, 4 cores 8 threads-  and with a rx 580 ti your good.

And some games do, sometimes theres no harm in having more ;)

For the price to performance ratio its good in general. I'm using experience from a friend and several youtube videos doing benchmarks and gameplay.

@Compynowby As you said you need a new GPU let me explain that the RX 580 is better than a GTX 1060 in some games and others the 1060 is better because they are very close in performance.

Personally I would choose the RX 580 because if you upgrade to a better monitor FreeSync is cheaper and frankly the same as GSync some people on the internet say stuff about AMD that isn't exactly true like with it being hotter maybe by like a few degrees but ultimately it depends on case and fans.

in terms of your CPU as you said its fine for now but later on I would say choose Ryzen over Intel because Ryzen = More value and multi-core performance for consumers don't bother upgrading your CPU on your platform save and get Ryzen and with RX 580 you will get very nice performance.

Just saying this is entirely an opinion (mostly) and everyone is different
