Hi,

This is my second post and since my first post was very helpful, I feel like asking for the Linus community for help once again (although I was told i was originally in the wrong section so I apologize for that!).

I originally wanted to copy Linus's 1,500$ build but I decided to try to make my own using multiple youtube videos and online articles as references. Because there are many computer deals that end tomorrow. I would like your help to be able to complete this build and if you believe that there are some changes to be made, please do not hesitate to share your opinion.

Here are some additional information that should be taken into consideration:

Budget: 1,200$ CAD (I live in Montreal, Quebec)

Purpose: Gaming (MMOs and Skyrim), light video editing and school.

Computer Knowledge: Incredibly low. I am a first time builder! I don't think i'll have too much of a hard time building it but I am not tech savvy when it comes to terminology nor do I have knowledge of the industry as a whole.

Components Missing: Graphics Card, Power Supply and Hard Drive (Optional, I can live with a 128gig SSD for a little while)

NOTE: I will not be needing the OS or any hardware such as displays, keyboards etc.

Budget Remaining: 460$

Please take note of the Case (Fractal Design Define R4 and the CPU cooler (Noctua NH-D14) since they have unique sizes.

Here is the link using pcpartpicker: ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2t3o9

What I am looking for is a good Graphics Card and a Power Supply that will match with this build and that is simple to install. I know that there are "Power Supply" calculators but I would really rather ask help from the experts on this website. Please note that I don't care for the look as much as the performance. So flashing lights and matching colors is not on my priority list. :) However, saving money and/or free stuff is! I noticed that a lot of graphic cards come with free games which is awesome....so yeah....

If someone could also double check that everything would fit in the case, it would be much appreciated. I used Noctua's compatibility website for the Noctua DH-14 to make sure that the ram would fit but a confirmation would definitively calm my nerves.

Also, if anyone knows of any video or article that I should follow when I actually create this build, it would be incredibly useful for this first-time builder!

Here are the cost associated with this build so far on NCIX.CA

CPU+Mother Board Bundle: 359.99$

(ASUS Z87-A and Intel Core i5 4670k) + (Free game!!! :) )

CPU Cooler: 69.99$

(Noctua NH-D14 LGA1150/1155/1156/1366 AM3 FM1 FM2 Heatpipe Cooler w/ NF-P14 140mm & NF-P12 120mm Fan)

RAM: 149.99$

(Patriot Viper 3 16GB 2X8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 10-10-10-27 1.5V Memory Kit - Black Mamba )

Computer Case: 79.99$

(Fractal Design Define R4 ATX Tower Case Black Pearl 2X5.25 8X3.5INT No PSU Front 2XUSB3.0 Audio)

SSD: 79.99$

(ADATA SX900 2.5" 128GB SSD SATA 3 SandForce 2281 550MB/SEC Write and 530MB/SEC Read)

Total: 739.95$ CAD

As always, thank you for your help and I hope to receive a lot of replies before the end of the sales!

Do this, but with extra $$ saved, get a modular PSU. This is a good one: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-rm650

Thanks for posting but I think I would like to stay with Intel if possible. Could I still use the Graphic Card and PSU that were mentioned previously with the Intel Chip + Asus Mobo?

Why go Intel when AMD will give the same performance?

Why go Intel when AMD will give the same performance?

Well the Bundle at NCIX seems attractive and since I'm getting most of my parts on that website, I would prefer getting this bundle that already seems fine too me. It's more for simplicity sake then anything else...

Before I make my order, I just want to confirm what kind of PSU I would need if I were to get the Asus Geforce GTX 770 GPU.

Thanks for your help!

The one I listed.

I'd suggest 8GB of memory instead of 16GB. The money is better spent on a gpu.

Hi,

if you're talking about the pcpartpicker, I made the change already! I had a small typo. It was supposed to be an o and not a 0. haha!

You need to quote a post or tag a member or else they won't get a notification you replied to them.

What parts do you already have?

A decent 550w would be plenty.
