It's a solid build.

Is there a reasoning/justification behind  "people" telling you to remove the case fans (I.E. replace them)? I don't know why you'd do this, unless you're going for a silent build, in which case, I'd recommend just adjusting your fan curves.

The only change readily apparently for me would be a 144hz monitor.

We don't know, however what you plan to do with this rig. It's implied that it's gaming, is this correct?

Generally, FD fans are pretty good quality. I'd recommend keeping them - perhaps adding another at a later date if your temperatures get bad. I also wouldn't recommend spending ~$40 on a single fan, but I understand prices are higher there.

The H7, overall, is a good cooler; however, they do have more defects than others and I'd never recommended paying $110 for it. Usually, it's around $40.

With that being said, a Noctua D15 - often listed as the best air cooler - is cheaper (if you're willing to buy from another company). I'd very strongly recommend that you switch over to it.  (Here's a link talking about directly comparing the two coolers: Reddit )

Regarding the GPU, if possible, you should wait a month before building. Nvidia's next-gen GPUs are set to release at Gamescom (August 21-25th). This should reduce the cost of the 1080 and similar cards. If you're not willing to wait a month, that's fine, but that's what I'd do if I was in your place.

Fan Comparisons          F@H          PCPartPicker         Analysis of Market Trends (Coming soon? Never? Who knows!)

Designing a mITX case. Working on aluminum prototypes.

Open for intern / part-time. Good at maths, CAD and airflow stuff. Dabbled with Python.

What about the case fans? Don’t I need the three pack to control the leds? Or can I stil control the leds with the two single fans?

Fractal Design's case fans don't have any LEDs on them.

If you're talking about the Corsair fans, from what I can tell, you'd need to have the Lighting Node Pro to adjust the fan's colors. You could get one (through the three pack), but that's ~120$. Pretty expensive.
