New workstation

Hello. 

My name is Adam and i am trying to get a new workstation pc. I might have known some things when i build my current pc but that was quiet a while ago and that is why i wanted to ask for assistance since i know that compared to most of you i basically know nothing of the current state of technology. 

 

Any help is much appreciated!

 

1. Location & Budget

I live in Switzerland and the budget is not set in stone but it would be between 1700-2200 CHF (1700 - 2200 USD)

 

2. Aim

This will be my new workhorse for the coming years so it will need to be capable of doing most things.

I mostly use my pc for these things:

• gaming: League of Legends, Overwatch, AoE, Battlefield 1 and also generally sometimes the newest popular mainstream titles. 
• work: I'm a student so massive amounts of chrome tabs + huge exel and word programs are in use daily 
• also in general it would be nice to know that if i would need anything it should be able to handle the basics (like sometimes having to use photoshop)

3. Monitors

I currently have only one monitor (ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q (27", 2560x1440) and i do not plan to add any monitor or to change that monitor in the nearest future.

 

4. Peripherals 

I already have my peripherals and those would not be included in the budget. FYI the peripherals i have at the moment are: 

Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 

Razer DeathAdder Elite

Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ (Mono) 

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x

 

5. Why Upgrade?

My parents computer just died and they immediately needed a replacement so i offered mine. My current one is already well over 10 years old but for their needs its still more than enough. 

 

 

Also i wanted to ask if you would recommend maybe buying a prebuild pc? In Switzerland we have an online store called digitec and it offers a wide variety of prebuild PCs.

This is build is not able to overclock. Despite its base clock, performance is very close to an i7-8700K at stock settings since its turbo clocks are identical.

 

You will have to check for local availability and pricing. With respect to memory, try to get a kit that is DDR4-2666 CL14. Not much point in getting anything much faster as the cpu will not run memory above DDR4-2666.

Oh thank you for your reply. Would this system do most of the things i need it to? 

 

If i end up going for these items i will go for either the noctua nh-d15 or the BeQuiet DarkRock. Since i want something that does as little noise as possible.

The system should do everything you want and more.

 

I believe that the Cryorig H7 I suggested is better than the Dark Rock 4.

 

Unfortunately the NH-D15 and Dark Rock Pro 4 will not fit in the case I selected. If you want to use the Dark Rock Pro 4, pick a case that has sufficient cpu cooler clearance. The Fractal Design - Define C TG would be a good candidate.
