Audio on newly built pc

I am about to build another pc but I had help with the first build and I just want to ask but to have headphones plugged into the pc for them to work do I need a sound card.

No, your mainboard will most likely have a soundcard built in.
Usually you get at least one output in your rear IO and also a header to connect your front IO to.

Yeah, the Gigabyte Z370 definitely has rear IO (up to 7.1 support, according to their specs) and you get your standard header for your front audio.
