Due to some previous life conditions, I had to always buy a portable gaming rig to game on, a stationary rig would have never been an option for me due to my travels and studies abroad, etc...

Now that I have settled down for a job, in a rather expensive country unfortunately, I am finally looking to build a PC, however I am overwhelmed with all the options and all the range of prices that I am kind of afraid to buy something that won't work, or to buy something more than what I would want, so I will try to make this as short as possible.

I want my PC for the following:

  • The games I play most are; Warframe, GTA V, Star Citizen, Battlefield, Assassins Creed series, FarCry series and Witcher 3. I would want to be able to play the upcoming Starfield and CyberPunk 2077.
  • I do care a lot for graphics when it comes to single player games, but I don't give a damn about that in fast paced games like Warframe or Battlefield where I want to avoid as much ghosting as possible.
  • In addition to gaming, I do a lot of rendering for my engineering work, and I also do video editing in my free time for extra cash, therefore I need a screen with a lot of real estate.

I put on some parts for the build, and according to where I live it will cost me around $5,300 USD. This is extremely expensive, especially for my first PC, I will most probably wait for the 11 series graphics card to be released before I can purchase the 1080 Ti, but I don't know if the rest of the build is over the top for what I want to do, or is it just fine.

My thoughts on parts are as follows:

  1. Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor
  2. NZXT - Kraken X62 Rev 2 98.2 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  3. Asus - ROG MAXIMUS X HERO (WI-FI AC) ATX
  4. G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
  5. Kingston 250GB M.2 Solid State Drive for OS only
  6. Kingston 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
  7. Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
  8. Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB STRIX
  9. Inwin - 805 Infinity ATX Mid Tower Case
  10. Corsair - RMx 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX
  11. NZXT - Aer RGB120 (3-pack) 61.4 CFM 120mm (Extra Fans)
  12. Monitor: I have no idea, this has caused me so much headache in this build, I don't care for 4K as I dont believe the technology is there yet, nor do I care for the current state of VR, but I would love to have VR in the future when it becomes viable. I love ultra wide screens, as well as curved screens,  thereforeI found 3 monitors that are around the same price range with similar specs, so I was thinking of any of those:
    1. ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q 34" 21:9 3440x1440 IPS 100Hz G-SYNC
    2. Dell AW3418DW LED-Lit Monitor 34.1"
    3. Acer Predator Gaming X34 Curved 34" UltraWide QHD Monitor with NVIDIA G-SYNC Technology
  13. For mouse and keyboard and speakers I am also having an issue, I like razer stuff, but I also want to sync my rig with Aura RGB, and the only ones that do so is ASUS mouse and keyboard and from what I hear alot that they are very bad. So just for general price estimates, I went for Razer Huntsman Elite RGB, Razer Mamba Elite RGB, Razer Nommo Chroma speakers.

Are these specs too much for what I want to achieve? Are they too little? Are they just right?

I would appreciate any help necessary as I would still have to save up the cash to buy my rig due to the country I live in not offering any finance options and only full cash payment for gaming pcs in particular, so I still have maybe 4 or 5 months to save up and prices may as well fluctuate. However, I would want to buy parts from this month so I don't have to dish out all that cash at one point, especially with stuff like RAM and VGA Cards going up alot.

Any recommendations would be so much help, thank you in advance.

Are you doing 4k gaming? And if so I would invest in a 4k monitor, if not but you want to do vr and you want it to be future proofed and since you do some video editing I would get this build. The system draws 494w from the wall so later in the future ( since it has a 650w or something psu ) you can do sli as the motherboard supports it and it comes with a gtx 1080 ti. Its around $3000 dollars and its specifically made for video editing, gaming, and lots of room for upgrading as well as compatibly for sli. I heard you need 32gb of ram, I mean what resolution are you video editing at? Why so much? It really adds a big price tag and makes it go way higher but either way its pretty good heres the link;

My current code projects

--------------------------------

  • C#/OpenGL ( using OpenTK graphics library API ) KnightsRealm ( unfinished, WIP plan on releasing on steam maybe a mobile port idk ) 2d topdown pixel art based game with medieval themes, sorcery, dragons, open world
  • C++ crypter ( if your into cryptography, I plan on releasing this on my website later :P
  • C#/OpenGL ( OpenGL for UI ) fan/light controller for my room w/ raspberry pi and some mechanical motors and stuff :D

Current repair projects

------------------------------

  • My dreadful receiver ( a capacitor blew )
  • working on a PC from a client, CPU died within the system, seems like a short, replaced CPU and awaiting payment before I ship it back
  • my old 1tb sas drive for my NAS, some blemishes or something on the PCB need to clear that back out, if it doesn't work i'll need to scrap it ( already backed up all my stuff thankfully )

If you're going to be doing professional-level engineering renders then you may need workstation-level gear. This is one hell of a gaming rig, but if you do any sort of large engineering project you may find that you need like a Quadro or a Volta for your graphics, and RAM starts to become a major issue in particularly large projects (or multiple open projects, I'd suggest at least 32GB, which you have, but 64 GB would be safer so that you don't get embarrassed at your job because you can't have everything open at once. also with video editing, you may want to take into consideration the color accuracy and range for your monitor.

That's a solid start for a build, but there are a few changes you may want to consider.

Waiting for the upcoming Intel CPU lineup is honestly what I recommend. The i9 9900K's 8 cores and 16 threads on a mainstream non-HEDT platform (Z390) will be a great fit for you, especially when doing rendering work or video editing. The 8700K is by no means a slouch in that regard, but the extra cores will be very helpful.

Kingston SSDs are crap IMO. Go with more decent units such as the Crucial MX500 or any recent Samsung SSD, or even ADATA XPG or SU800 units. Just stay away from Kingston. The only Kingston SSDs remotely worth buying are their HyperX series, and those still compete poorly in terms of price/performance compared to better and faster drives of the same price bracket.

Out of the three monitors the ASUS panel is probably the best but the Acer X34 is a very solid pick. A buddy of mine has the X34 and he swears by it.

Inwin cases can be a nightmare to build in. I used to work part-time as a PC builder while going to school for my local area, and I've built several PCs with Inwin cases. They look sexy as hell and are very high quality, but that aesthetic comes at the cost of convenience which will frustrate a first time builder. Look into the Corsair 570X if you're set on a beautiful glass case.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

I already said that in my post:

Quote

I don't care for 4K as I dont believe the technology is there yet

I do not want to do any SLI, one graphics card is fine for me.

For the RAM, all my gaming laptops had 32 GBs of RAM, I edit at 1080p and sometimes at 1440p as well. I chose the 32 GBs of RAM, because down the line I would want to get another monitor to be able to multitask, so I would need that RAM.

I don't do large engineering projects at home, I do them at my job. This is just a side thing where I design houses for people so the load isn't much as I can do it smoothly on my current gaming laptop (Alienware 17' 2014).

I am very confused about the monitors, I know I need an ultrawide curved monitor that is 1440p.

I do not need all the cores as I do small projects that already run smoothly on my gaming laptop (Alienware 17" 2014). It is mainly for house designs and the rendering is why I need more than 4 cores. Plus I think i9 is too much for what I want and would just cost me more while I'm trying to decrease the overall costs.

About my ssd, unfortunately it is the only SSD available in this country with something called T-Force which I never heard about before so I have no choice in the matter.

About the case, what do you think about NZXT? Corsair cases are not really common over here.

This is better, but they do not sell Ryzen here unfortunately. And don't you think I may need a 250 GBS M.2 for the OS only?

Also the Ryzen 7 2700x has more cores and more threads than the i7 8700k ( which was a part that you were considering ) and it performs better than a i7 8th gen ( k ) in both video editing and gaming.

What I do ( and what the sweet spot is ) is to get a ssd to store your games and os on for fast boot, and then the 7200rpm hdd for mass storage and all your files and all that good stuff. Also I didn't know they didn't sell ryzen 7's in your area, couldn't you get one used on eBay? Its perfect for what your doing. Or maybe even new from eBay?

Fair enough on the first point.

My condolences on the SSD availability. What country are you in?

NZXT cases are pretty decent, with the S340 Elite being a solid budget oriented case that still includes glass. They are pretty easy to build in, though airflow is not very good. You will have to purchase at least two case fans, which you obviously plan on doing anyway.

I have to look it up, as I mentioned in one of my other replies, Corsair's market isn't that good over here.

I just moved to Kuwait to work for a construction consultant firm.

NZXT S340 Elite, H700 or the H700i are what I recommend from NZXT. For Coolermaster decent cases include the H500 or any of its variants, with the H500P being probably the best choice because of larger fans. A budget alternative for Coolermaster would be the Masterbox Lite series.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

Holy crap dude you can use it i mean like if you want too honestly go ahead but I've been like taught all my life never put water in a computer and then *poof* its like popular af. As long as the cooler supports the processor socket in this case its a am4 socket.

If you want any software made, or stuff to be repaired give me an email!
