Pc not powering on

Go to solution Solved by Skrukkatrollet,

Sorry for the bump, but I realised I forgot to post what the issue actually was.

The problem turned out to be a dead gpu, but the computer didnt boot after it was removed until the cmos was reset. I didnt know that a dead gpu could give this issue, but since I had this issue a friend with a 570 from sapphire had the same issue.

Hi

My pc suddenly turned off while I was using it, and it would not turn back on (no fan spin, or anything).

I tested the power supply (shorted the green and black on the 24 pin) and the psu fan turned on, so I suspect that the issue is my motherboard. What further steps should I take to figure out what the issue is? I have tested with only one stick of ram, and no change.

Specs: Intel i5 4670k

Msi z87-g55

8 gb hyperx fury ram (2 4gb dimms)

Hyper 212

Asus radeon rx 580

Cooler master g650m

Hyperx 120 gb ssd

2 3.5 inch harddrives

Thanks

Skrukkatrollet

If you can access BIOS, go back to default settings and see if that changes anything.

If you can't access BIOS, reset the CMOS battery off the motherboard.

sounds like a dead motherboard to me. double check by testing another power supply in that system to make sure, a spinning power supply fan doesn't guarantee that it still is fully functional, but yea you probably have a dead board.

Perhaps if it was drawing too much power or something so then the system refused to start with the GPU inserted. CMOS reset would have fixed this but if the GPU was still not working then the loop would have just kept repeating itself. I learn something new everyday. Glad you got it fixed ?
