CPU for streaming.

Hey, this has probably been asked a thousand times, but I'm not if I should make the switch to Ryzen or stray with Intel?

I currently have an i5-4670k running at base, if I upgrade to a 4th Gen i7 I could save money on ram and potentially buy a new GPU (current is 1050ti)

How I would like to stream more frequently, so I wasn't sure if getting a Ryzen 1600 or 1700 would be a good option, but then I'd have to pay for more RAM. I play titles such as Overwatch and Rocket League, nothing too demanding.

Cheers, Harri

If only IPC matters and best game performance then intel still has this crown, Ryzen is the better value option by far though.

if you can pay the extra for a new platform, the 1600 or 1700 will perform much better for streaming.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Would you say try and wait until I can afford 16GB too?

you could always start with a single 8 gb stick and upgrade latter

btw why the 1600, when the new gen is out ?

It was just an example, would you highly recommend the second gen? and do we know when 3rd gen is coming so I might be able to wait for the prices to drop?

going from the last 2 zen releases it should be released around february-march of 2019 and it should be pretty fast (things are pointing to more ipc more cores and more clocks), the advantage of the second gen is better much better stock performance as the cpus boost higher for longer though you will have to get boards that support them out of the box (x470 or x370/b350 if they have a sticker saying they support the newer chips)

If I went for second gen, would you still recommend a minimum of a 2600 for streaming, or the 2700?

i guess it depends on how hard you push your system, its hard to tell as it depends on 2 things one is the quality of the stream and the other is how cpu intensive are the games you plan on streaming, a good place to find info (benchmarks) about this is probably gamers nexus

If you are streaming on the the same system, Ryzen 7 and 16GB of RAM is the way to go.

6C/12T will show performance dips on the audience side once you start cranking up the quality. 8C/16T doesn't have this issue.

As someone who streams even in VR without any lag or issues on my side or the audience side, it's the way to go.

Below is an example article for reference:

What's the highest quality I could go before seeing dips on the 6C/12T?

IIRC, it was around the 8mb/s to 10mb/s mark.

I am on mobile, so it would be hard for me to link you. I recommend researching reviews that get in depth with streaming on the same PC. They are great reads!
