Hi all,

My computer keeps turning off while under load, It runs chrome and Ableton live 10 just fine, which is most of what I use it for, but for some reason whenever I open up a more recent game it turns off before I can even get into a match. I have tried using Open Hardware Monitor to monitor the temps, but because it cuts off suddenly I really only have idle temps. It's really tough to pin down, and I was wondering if there is a way to troubleshoot the PC to figure out what is the actual problem with it.

Idle temps-

4690k-  31-33 C

970-      35 C

All other components are below 35C at idle.

It runs just fine for older games at 4k like COD: MW3, Music production apps like Ableton Live 10, or Chrome.

It will turn off under load for COD: Black Ops 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1

The PC runs at 4k, and it has been doing so just fine for a good couple of months before any of the more recent games started not wanting to work for me.

Below is the build I have for this pc, via PCPartPicker.

Please let me know if there are any good resources you know of to try to troubleshoot this problem, or if you have a solution on the LTT forum that would be great!

Thanks in advance!

You sure your wall outlet can deliver enough?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Pretty darn sure, because it was working on the same wall outlet just a few weeks ago.

Try loading a game with just integrated graphics, no gpu.

Are you able to check the the LOAD temperatures are -- or right before it shuts down?

Could be component(s) overheating, the over temperature protection kicking in.

Do you have another PSU that you can test with?

It could be a faulty PSU.

@fasauceome's suggestion is also good.

This way, you can rule out the GPU as the issue...and kind of the PSU.

No GPU = lower power draw from the PSU = less likely for PSU to shutdown
