I have a EVGA SUPERNOVA 650 P2 that I've been using for quite a while. Within the first few weeks of having this power supply two years ago, I managed to snap off the plastic from the header on at least one of each of the SATA power cables. I ordered some custom wired cabling from a small outfit out of the Carolinas, and was quite happy with the setup, as I was able to get 6 daisy chained connectors on a single cable. Mind you, I didn't need all six, but it was nice to have that expandability as well as having resolved no longer having those snapped and shattered headers.

Now, with the replacement of my computer case, the malleability of those daisy chained cables (which have quite a short amount of length between each connector) have put me in a position where I will need to look to replace these yet again. I have looked at what it would cost to order just two SATA power cables from somewhere like cablemod, and the price is a bit steep just for two replacement SATA power cables. I further looked at what EVGA had in the sense of just replacing those with the same stock cables that came with my PSU, and at the price they're asking (because they force you to buy the whole set of cables), I might as well buy an entirely new PSU.

My question becomes: what would be a good option to get SATA power cables that aren't going to put me in the same realm price wise all said and done as a new PSU? I'm not worried about aesthetics as much as I am usability, so I don't need them to be specially made. I just need something that has more than an inch between each SATA power connector, as I want to avoid applying too much pressure to the connectors on my drives in the new case.

Thanks!

no offense, but how do you break the sata power cables?

i'd just get a new PSU.

Poor clearance in an undersized case bought in a rush, and impatience with the situation. Not such a big deal now since I have since replaced the case recently. The power supply is still quite new and has been working quite well, but with the lack of power cables for a decent price unless I end up having to go the route of custom cabling just to get replacements of only the cables I need, or having to buy a whole set of replacements just to get the ones I need, it can be quite frustrating.

Honestly, any SATA cable will break. They're the more flimsy cables (both power and data). When I build PCs, I leave that stuff for last because of how flimsy they are.

It's easier than you think. And the P2 is an excellent unit. No need to replace until its no longer under warranty.

I think just get regular ones for the PSU for now and simply be more careful with them. Unless you want the fancy sleeved cables.

The question is more to the effect though of where to source just the SATA power cables, since I don't need the whole set (which is all EVGA seems to carry, they don't piecemeal it out for some reason or another -- And as for fancy sleeved cables, outside of cablemod, I'm not too aware of where I could source these that would work out well with the 750D's tool free ssd trays since the clearance on the trays are a bit ugly when it comes to power connectors.
