Wifi users have priority over ethernet

Shmoofle

Recently more and more often ive been realizing that my brother gets me kicked from r6 siege when hes on his phone. Not sure why this has changed from before when it never even happened. My ping goes to 1000+ and it gets me kicked from any online match i play even if i host the match. My router doenst have any built in QOS settings and i cant buy any software so if anyone knows of a free way to fix this then please help cause i cant play anything if anyone else is on the network.

@Shmoofle I dont think its gonna be as easy as a piece of software, u need someway of prioritzing traffic on the router which is usually done through its software.

Change the Router settings either by going to your Router IP-Address or AT&Ts login website

I think your brother is trolling you

Any old WiFi routers laying around? any of your family members have one laying around?

EDIT: CONTACT YOUR ISP (AT&T)

Question, I know that extensions of the network will still cause the same lag but will a new router have the same affect if its on the same network while i let the provided one be used for my brother or will the net work still have the "shared" affects that ive been having.

What speed package do you have?  A lot of people have problems when a phone or similar connects and starts syncing shit to the cloud

PC : 3600 · Crosshair VI WiFi · 2x16GB RGB 3200 · 1080Ti SC2 · 1TB WD SN750 · EVGA 1600G2 · Define C

It depends what is causing the issue.  At the very least it should bypass anything in the main router that might somehow be prioritising WiFi as the second router is effectively just another wired client so far as the main router is concerned, including any WiFi clients connected to it.

In my opinion its generally a good idea to keep WiFi on a separate device anyway as heavy use can slow down Internet traffic due to taxing the CPU, plus you get the benefit of being able to position it more central in the house for optimum reception and more easily turn it off if you want to cut off all WiFi entirely.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

What kind of phone your brother has?  If he's using an iPhone, you can enable "Network Link Conditioner" on his phone and throttle his bandwidth.  See this post for instruction.  https://nshipster.com/network-link-conditioner/

Ideally, you want to have a wireless router or WiFi access point that allows you to set bandwidth limit per SSID channel but you said you are not planning to upgrade network equipment so you will need to look into software solution.
