Hello, so a few days ago i bought a gtx 1060 3gb and now im staring to think what should i upgrade next in my pc. My specs are: Cpu: i3-4170 Ram: 8gb ddr3 1600Mhz, Storage: 120gb ssd, 1tb hdd Motherboard: Gigabyte b85m ds3h-a Cooling: cpu stock cooler and 1 intake case fan PSU: 500w (dont know brand).    I was thinking of getting a new cpu thats also haswell but it would be nice to get ddr4 and a newer gen cpu, but it would cost me alot more. My budget for an upgrade would be 200-300$, i try not to buy used but maybe i would if i found a good deal.

Possibly to a 4770k?

Ebay has 2 used listings in the 180-190 range one with a stock cooler and one that seems to be just the chip, and one refurbed at $225

According to bench sites the 4770k is close to twice the processor with the 4770 being in close to the same ballpark. With your mobo you'll not get to OC it, but it will outperform the rest of in socket solutions on a stock spec comparison pretty much 100% of the time.

Wouldn't make much sense considering he only has a B85 board.

Looked at Refurb and used and both 4770 and 4770k fit the budget. 4770k even without OC involved is the higher performer so it is the better choice.

Nah I'd stick to a 4770.

Definitely a little less costly.

Personal preference with old gen sockets where a person has tons of room for in socket improvement is as long as it's within their budget to suggest they try to snatch up the highest performer in the socket.

Considering the board he has is quite basic I wouldn't really risk putting in a 'K' CPU.
