So last christmas one of my ram sticks died. I have corsair vengance 4x4gb, serial cmz16gx3m4x2133c11r

My ram is 2133MHz but I only have it running at 1600MHz since haswell. Could I get another 4gb stick at 1600MHz and use it along side or does it also need to be 2133MHz, or will it not work entirely.

Thanks

might as well let it limp on 12GB... but yes, if you arent going to overclock, another 4gb 1600 stick will do.

It'll work, and if you have XMP on your motherboard you may be able to get it to OC up higher.

Im not sure what kind of magic is going on with my ram, but ive got a 1600mhz 8gb stick and an 1866mhz 4gb stick, both are running at 1866mhz but show up as different stock frequencies entirely in speccy.

But it works.

So I could get an 8gb stick and put that in and get 20GB of ram and it will work fine?

yeah, ddr3 and ddr4 are generally pretty "mismatch" compatible (of course not with eachother)

then speed might be an issue, it will usually just match the speed of the slowest ram, sometimes XMP will let you overclock to the higher clocked sticks, but sometimes not, it worked ok for me but its not a 100% kinda thing

will the capacity work? yeah

you could have a 1gb, 2gb, 4gb and 8gb stick of all different speeds and timings in 4 slots and have 17gb of mismatched ram that works fine
