CPU bottlenecking

hi i have an fx-4300 and strix gtx 970 and the fx processor is showing its old age...which processor should i buy... i am playing gta v bf 3 bf4 and doom

and i want to spend about 400€

i alreadi have 650w psu, and gpu only want cpu and mb

see if you can fit in an i5 8400, B360 board and 8-16gb of ddr4.

at the price-point the Ryzen 5 2600 and a B350 and potentially an X370 board along with the mentioned DDR4 are also options. Though the 8400 will generally out game it by a variable margin depending on the games CPU core utilization(poorer multi-core utilization tends to heavily favor the 8400 while better multi-core utilization tilts things more towards the Ryzen 5 rarely giving it some minor wins)

There are at least two games that I have seen repeated bench results where the 8600K actually beats the 8700K when using same RAM Clock+Latency and same GPU OCs.

i was also wanting to made an itx build... i want to use it like a tv box but for gaming and i already have 8 gb of ddr4 ram from a friend who doesnt need it... eny suggestions on witch mb and cpu should i get

You currently have an AMD FX-4300 (PassMark CPU score of 4,679).

 

You want to buy a new CPU and motherboard for €400 (around £360).

 

You will be buying DDR4 RAM separately.

 

Coffee Lake (Intel) motherboards start at around £50.

AM4 (AMD) motherboards start at around £45.
