So yesterday i tried to overclock my gpu using msi afterburner and testing by playing battlefield 3.First i moved power limit to max, core clock to 1200 and memory clock to 1300 which made my game crash in matter of seconds, so i thought that was too big and went 1150 and 1250 that crashed my game after around 5 10 minutes. After that i left memory at 1200 and core clock to 1125 which worked for around 40 minutes and my game crashed so i returned everything to default, when i was overclocking my gpu temperature moved from 54 to 58, 60 in BF3 so i don't think its that. Do i really need to move voltage since i heard it degrades your GPU over time and do i need the latest beta driver or can i still use 13.1.

Please respond if you know what i did wrong :) thanks!

If you've already got a factory overclocked card, it may be harder to overclock than normal reference cards. Each GPU is different so bear that in mind when comparing. Either way, if you want to fully overclock your card, you will have to touch the voltages, and yes - it will degrade your card - that's the pay off of greater performance.

I have a seasonic 520w 80+ modular so PSU is not the issue now if i touch the voltage how much will it degrade since im probably planning on using it for at least 1-3 years and i want to sell it off after that.

The Gigabyte 7870 is voltage locked, moving the power limit slider doesn't affect the actual voltage
I can still change it in my msi afterburner.
