Help deciding what GPU to get...again.

Go to solution Solved by CwGoh,

Yeah I was just looking around, I think a R9 R70 would fit, and it would probably perform well with another R70 later on. Not to mention I save money on a MB :D

I think I'm going to go with ASUS's R9 R70 instead of Gigabyte's is that a good idea? I've heard mediocre things about the WindForce cooler lol.

The Asus one has a better power implementation and a nicer looking cooler. In terms of cooling potential, they are about the same.

Over the past month or two I've been posting here looking for help with which parts to get but more specifically my video card. I'm building a new PC soon btw, just for an fyi before I continue. So I've heard that Intel CPU's work better with Nvidia GPU's and AMD GPU's are just like...there, to do the job. I do think most of these beliefs are mostly biased crap or just rumors. I've yet to find a video (inb4 google search spam reply) of someone testing this whole theory.

I'll try not to get ahead of myself and write out something people don't want to waste time reading, but it's difficult when making such a decision in my opinion.

So anyways, I was going to go with EVGA's OC'd 760, but I've been looking around, even though that is best for the price as far as high-end GPU's go unless sales found otherwise (as far as I know). I just want to save money so I can spend it on other things that to me will be more important than being able to run a AAA title on Ultra(+) at 40-60(+)FPS etc. Such as, more storage as I use Steam quite often and buy during sales and enjoy having so many games to my disposal anytime. Overall, I was thinking possibly a 650 Ti Boost - in fact, this was the card I looked at once I first began learning about PC parts a month or two back. I've watched a few videos on it's performance; as it may not be able to reach Ultra presets on 'newish' games or even top 60FPS constantly all the time - that's all I 'need'. And if I wanted to even do such a thing I could get another 650TB or even two more, etc.

To be honest, I'm kind of a stickler for wanting high FPS or I get kind of annoyed from not having it (60-120+fps) on every game. So I'd just be satisfied with being able to achieve playing at 1080p with medium graphics or lower if needs be. Right now I have to sit there and stare at disgusting 800x600 - 1280x720 games with the lowest possible settings at full screen, since I can't stand playing windowed unless my main MMO.

Just a few more things; this whole 'Shadowplay' deal is not something I am interested in as I've seen it used, and it does still impact performance depending on the CPU power. I'd rather take it with OBS instead. I also only plan to get another BenQ for other tasks only, not multi-monitor gameplay, so I don't give a crap about that either tbh.

All of that talk aside, I just want some more insight on if I should get a AMD card, or go with an Nvidia card.

Thanks in advanced for all the reply.

Budget? Can't go wrong with an R9 290, R9 280x or GTX 780.

The stuff about Nvidia GPUs working better with Intel is crap. But to start, we need your budget.

Oh right, dumb me. I'd say my budget for a GPU is 200$ tbh.

With current prices, you get what you pay for I guess, the 760 is about $30 more than a 7870/R9 270, and you get 15-20% performance increase. If you want more performance, just pay more for the 760.

You may want to lay your eyes on the R9 270 with that budget.

If you regard my facts as wrong, feel free to rectify it.

Digging around a bit more, if you can find a 7870 XT at the same price of a 760, the AMD card will be faster.

Basically,

In terms of performance (ascending):

1) 7870

2) R9 270

3) R9 270X

4) GTX 760

5) 7870 XT

Just look at prices and do the maths. :)
