Hey Guys!

I use a Macbook Pro 15inch. My question to you guys is about Battery Life.

I use my laptop on a desk with a Promise Pegasus3 R6 and a 4K monitor. I usually keep the Charger on the laptop, leaving it on during my work on it. I usually work for about 10hours a day.

What should I do to keep my battery's lifespan.

1. Leave the charger on while I work and let the battery at 100%

2. Leave the charger on until the battery reaches 80%, drain it to 20% & finally replug it until 80%

Let me know guys! Thanks!

If the system has a high quality battery and a well designed charging circuit, then you can leave the laptop plugged in all the time.

In most cases the battery will not actually be at 100%, more like 97-93%, but report 100% charged, to not fully charge the battery at 100%, and the quality battery is able to retain a its charge. You can get to 100% if the battery is low states and you are charging the laptop withouty interruption, where it will quickly charge the battery and then slow down after a certain level until it reaches 100%

That said, some laptops power adapter, make them small, are unable to deliver the performance needed for the system to run under max load, and fetches the additional power it needs from the battery slowly discharging it (unless the battery life really drains down, the charging circuit won't recharge the battery, again, if well designed). Such laptop (I mean the ones with a power adapter that can't deliver the full required powered) charging rate speed will vary based on system load. If the system is off it will charge a lot faster than if you are playing a game.

It's fine to leave the battery plugged in all the time, since modern battery packs should stop charging the battery a little under maximum capacity to help prolong it. For lithium ion batteries, basically the more you use it, the faster it wears.

The only problem is that heat is a major factor in killing the battery. So if you plan on working hard with the laptop, make sure it has adequate cooling and use a cooling pad if necessary.

Just to add: This is only true to some extent. All Lithium-Ion batteries composition aren't identical. Some manufactures can make batteries that are resistant to wear from heat (keyword is: resistant, it is not full proof). I had laptop where the battery weared out quickly due to heat, and yet you have devices like the Surface Pro which does get warm under load, and the battery doesn't have any noticeable impact after a few years.

Well, it's best just to assume the worst and to not let the laptop get too hot anyway.
