16 GB Corsair DDR4 LPX ram

i5 8400 CPU

MSI Z370-A Pro

750w Cooler master psu

I am having issues upgrading from a AMD Radeon 5450HD to a Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1. I have uninstalled the old drivers but when I plug the new GPU in I am unable to install the new drivers for the 1080 through both NVIDIA or windows. I have triedpPlugging in the graphics card and leaving it for a few minutes but then when I restart my computer the card's fans stop and it only displays a black screen. Am I doing something wrong?

The Gigabyte G1 GTX 1080 needs a PCI-E 8-pin power connector connected from your PSU.

The PCI-E 8-pin supplies additional power to the card -- the connector is REQUIRED, NOT optional.

 

Make sure your monitor cable is also connected to the back of the GTX 1080, and not to the back of the motherboard.
