Here in Ireland heiniken have fridges that display images thar are at a guess a 32 inch screen in the door, is there similar tech for pcmods, I've seen some but the have massive lighting

well yeah you need massive lighting for backlight. i have actually done this and will do revision 2 of it soon. you just split the layers of an lcd apart and remove the backlight and all that until youre left with a semi-transparent lcd screen only and then just mount it on the inside of the door or so and get some really fricking bright light for iside the box.

ps: i dont belief there like a finished product you can just buy and install

You can hack up your own by disassembling an LCD monitor, but keeping the LCD part of it intact and framing that:

Although I have seen cases from CyberPowerPC systems that have an LCD as the side panel for the case. Though I'm not sure if it's a COTS product (Since that's what they seem to build systems out of) or a custom job.

CyberPowerPC sells a case with an lcd sidepanel, but it looks they since then have removed it, now you can only buy it as a complete system:

oh yeah i knew about that but as you said you need to buy the whole system then and theres no sperate plug and play product for modding.

while that would be cool i think its gonna be tough to realize because of all the different screen sizesand also if you do that on lets say a pc case you need to basically seal the case like its meant to be waterproof - like damn near aquarium level because of light bleeding trough everywhere. belive me ive tried well im still trying

i saw a similar one for coke in China, the light inside hurt to look at

exactly.

i mean surely you could try to direct it towards the panel and mount it o the door itself to minize the effect when opening the door but still as luke showed on the snowblind at some CES or so you need a lot of light for a display like this. ibuypowers name for the case/system "snowBLIND" is not random.

if you have an old maybe half broken lcd somewhere you try this out yourslef just rip it apart without damaging the electronics. youll notice that even a very bright flash light held directly behind the panel will barely make its contents even visible.

the backlight lcds use are extremely bright and therefore the heaviest battery life factor. plus with all the layers of polarizing and black magic forkery behind the lcd they spread the light out so evenly across the screen its amazing to watch and tinker with.

Never seen fridge in bar which wasn't well lit. Bartenders need to see what they pick after all. So having a light there is given.

You could easily do that with a USB strip, and at worst that would likely add 2.5W into the system. Google University says a dorm sized fridge will move about 150 BTU/hr, and 2.5W is about 10 BTUs assuming all that electricity is dumped as heat (which it isn't)

So it has pretty much little impact on the effectiveness of the fridge.
