Most of your fps per $ will come from your GPU but you like you have that covered already with a 1080. I would say get a solid platform upgrade, 6 or 8 cores will benefit you in the future. That will also allow you to get some faster (quad channel if you can afford the board) memory - 32gb seems like a reasonable upgrade. Other than the only thing I can think of is a new GPU when next gen comes out and your case, peripherals etc. You may also want some more mass storage by getting a larger hard drive - 2tb maybe?

Hi,

I'm at that time of the year where I look around to see if any upgrade is worth it. I've been upgrading my PC little by little every year and got to a point where I'm not sure if anything will make any real difference.

Here are the spec's:

        CPU
            Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz
        RAM
            16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
        Motherboard
            ASRock H97M Pro4 (CPUSocket)
        Graphics
            SE790C (3440x1440@60Hz)
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (ASUStek Computer Inc)
        Storage
931GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB (SATA (SSD))
            465GB Western Digital WDC WD5002ABYS-01B1B0 (SATA )
            465GB Hitachi HDS721050CLA362 (SATA )
        Audio
            NVIDIA High Definition Audio

I play about any game and I don't think I ever reached a roof because of my spec's. The most obvious upgrade to me would be the Motherboard+CPU but I don't really want to upgrade for 1-5 FPS in a game.

any suggestions?

if your budget allows, increasing storage would help in storing games and other areas i guess (storing movies / tv shows if that's your thing) or the amount of ram would help if you ever ventured into the video creating or rendering areas

personally my setup is quite similar to yours (except i have a 1060 and a 1080p monitor as i didn't think my i5 would handle 4k gaming and a second display effectively) and i would go for storage space as 2TB isn't what i would call a good amount of storage especially if you buy a lot of games or store a lot of content.
