That's quite a wide price range... I find if difficult recommending a product from a company that isn't renowned in a given criteria (ie Corsair in this case). The Edifers don't really appeal to me at all, they look kinda cheap. Do you have a decent sound card? once you start getting into the $400 price range you WILL hear the difference, I even could with my $150 M-Audio speakers. You sort of need both to get the most out of each other. I'd pick the Audioengines simply because they are better in every aspect from a sound perspective, but you will need to pay for it. I don't know if you can get Swan speakers if you're outside of Australia, I haven't seen them anywhere else, but the M100 MKII's seem like they are right up your alley...

Peter Aczel posted about these. People who are obsessed with $40,000 speakers usually don't even give this stuff the time of day. I've yet to get a pair of these myself, but they do look nice. And expensive as usb powered speakers go.

I had the Corsair SP 2500.. what a disappointment. Good sound, but hiss all the time. I exchanged them.. same problem. I ended up returning them.

No it's not the sound card. I use the Xonar Essentce STX. No problem with my headphones or old speakers. And the Corsair SP2500 hisses even when unplugged. Everyone has this issue if you Google it.

When 60$ PC speakers don't hiss, I find it unacceptable for the SP2500 to do this.

I have the Audioengine A5+ myself and I highly recommend them. There is a massive difference in sound quality from the previous speakers I had (Logitech Z2300) and I imagine that they are in a whole other league from 90% of other PC branded speakers. You will want to get a sub to get anywhere near as much bass as one of the Logitech/Corsiar systems though. I just use the sub from my old Logitech Z2300 speaker system and it works great.

audioengine p4s and a lepai amp would probably be a better option over the a5+, as you can upgrade the amp when you want and you save a few hundred dollars.

Will work for electronic components and parts

Don't get them even if you get a good discount.
You couldn't pay me to take them. Every time I listen to the demo at the store I laugh at the severe lack of treble on those tiny speakers. No wonder the demo is always some cello heavy jazz track
