Overclock Support

Hello. I'm trying to find the cheapest motherboard that can support overclocking the i5 8600k. The problem is I can't tell if a motherboard can overclock or not, can someone help? How do I tell?

You have to get a Z370 series chipset for Coffee Lake overclocking. Most motherboards will have it either in the name or specs on their website.

Any board with the chipset 'Z370' can overclock is essentially all you need to know. I bought my Asus Prime Z370-P for £102, but I don't personally recommend it for heavy overclocking.

 

Something like an Aorus Z370 or an Asus Z370-A should be more suitable for high overclocks.

Thanks! They're much more expensive than non overclocking boards, but I think it's worth the performance upgrade since I'm getting an unlocked processor.

Absolutely, getting an unlocked CPU and sticking it in a locked board is a sin. Happy overclocking!
