So I'm in the market to buy a VR headset and the oculus and vive are really expensive compared to the MR Headset im wanting to get. I heard Linus had a bad review about it but a VR gamedev reviewed it which has had years of experience with VR headsets and he said it was a great headset, but thats besides the point. The MR headset says its default IPD is 68mm but can be adjusted with a software people say wont work. I have measured mine and mine is 2.875 or 73mm. Will this be close enough to not have to adjust it or will I have to adjust it?

I havent adjusted the Vive IPD at all and cant really tell.

The bigger problem with mixed reality headsets are that tracking is worse than vive, for example they cant track your controllers if they are behind you, the display refreshrate is too low, so it can cause motion sickness etc. The first gen Vive should be really cheap now, about 500-600 usd, the same with oculus.

But if you dont get motion sick then get the MR ehadset if you want to save a few bucks.

Do you know your exact IPD? I also know the MR headset has 90hz just like the vive and oculus and it can track behind you by using the acceleration of the controlers, but lets face it, how many games are you gonna need tracking behind your back?

oh if it has 90fps instead of 60 that should be good. No i dont know my ipd, but i have randomly rotated the vive IPD knob and havent noticed any difference.

A lot of shooting games, dont you want to look like a badass headshotting someone while you are not even looking? For example SuperHot VR, Space Pirate Training, all the online shooting games like Pavlov, etc

and now im fucking confused because at first i got 73mm IPD and i did it again with a different ruler, now I have 68mm IPD

IPD doesnt mean anything in my opinion. As i said i have played wih 73, 68 etc and havent noticed a big difference. There is a slight one, but few mm here and there should be fine.
