Hello,

I'm configuring my router via its web interface, and was wondering what these 3 settings mean. Thanks in advance.

To keep it simple, multicast is like a one to many protocol and is used for IPTV and other things where you send the stream from one box and it's replicated to everyone who asks for the stream.

Under Security the broadcast network name I assume is for wireless where you advertise the SSID.

Allow new devices seems like it would allow devices that enter the security key to connect to wifi.

I'm also looking at channels, and setting is set to pick automatically. It's set at channel 11 for the moment. Should I leave it at auto, or select a dedicated channel manually myself? Will it make any differences?

-snip-

I think 11 is a good choice if there isn't any other signal on it. Auto will, probably, scan and find the least congested channel but setting it manually is fine too.

Should I leave "Always use the same IP address" enabled on all devices? What's the upsides/downsides by doing this?

Under what context?

Wireless or something else?

Devices connected to the router, wireless. Right now I have my PC, my phone and XBOX connected to my WIFI. I can adjust each of them to "always use same IP". Is that good or bad that a device uses the same IP adress 24/7, rather than changing?

Doesn't make much of a difference. It's useful if you want the IPs to not change as often such as if you host a game server or something
