Graphics Card Problem?

brokeviski

Hi all,

So my graphics card is an Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 8GB OC and i'm having some problems while playing some games.

It started a couple of weeks ago and this is what happens https://imgur.com/a/gvnwgpE

Then i downloaded FurMark Rog Edition stress test and it lasted only a minute until it froze like the picture.

Next i take the 1070 to a friends house, install on his pc, run the same stress test thinking that it would freeze after 1 minute but no, it goes for over an hour.
So maybe the the GPU is fine? i do some online digging and someone tells me that maybe the problem is with my PSU, that would explain why it worked on my friends pc and why it only freezes on heavy graphics games.

Next i take my pc to my friends house, try his PSU on my PC, do the same stress test, and also freezes after around 1min, tried Rise of the tomb raider maxed out, freezes after 1min.

Tried lowering the GPU boost clock and it still froze.

Dont know what else to try. I have latest drivers, i even did a clean windows install and same thing happens.

when i install new hardware, what works for me is re-installing windows ast it only takes about 20 minutes if that, Noty saying this is a fix but parts are happier with frsh installs and their new.

That smells of a bad VRAM.

Try to downclock the VRAM heavily and run again.

Well that might have solved it, did the downclock and seems stable for now. But now what? is the card broken? should i activate its warranty?

Yea, send it for an RMA. That is a faulty VRAM that does not run stable according to its specs.
