I just want the best possible PC for 2000$. I don't need peripherals or monitors. I don't care a lot for RGB. Just build the best price to performance PC for 2000$. Thanks.

go to pc part picker and see what you can get, I'd say around a 1080 or 1080ti  + 8700k or r7 2700x with 16 gigs of ram should be possible in this price range

ohk got it, this is what  you should look for since i dont wanna decide for you because your decision shouldnt be based on me.

GPU: for ~$600 you can get a gtx 1080 and for $800 you can get a 1080ti. 1080 is great for 1440p gaming at 70+ fps on ultra settings, the 1080ti though, its about 35 percent faster and it can do 4k at 45-60 fps. try to get a 1080ti if your budget allows it.

CPU: i7 8700k is the best for gaming, but an AMD ryzen 7 2700x is much faster for other workstation stuff, the 2700x will give you good gaming performance too but not as good as the 8700k

RAM: 16GB should be sufficient for everything unless you do video editing or big CAD drawings, if you do, go for 1080+32GB ram.

MOTHERBOARD: if your getting an 8700k, go for a z370 motherboard which costs ~$100 OR if your going for an AMD ryzen 2700x, go for an x470 motherboard which costs around the same.

power supply: if you get a 1080ti get a 650w or higher power supply with 80+ rating(from a good brand like corsair or something), if you get a 1080, a 550w should be good enough and it will have headroom for overclocking.

SSD: try to get a 240gb m.2 drive which has more than 6gbps speeds. if your budget doesnt allow an m.2 drive, get a 240gb SATA drive.

HDD: a 7200rpm 2tb drive should be enough, something like a WD BLUE 2TB or seagate barracuda 2TB.

CASE: this (mostly) depends on your motherboard size, if you get an ATX motherboard, just find a good looking case which supports ATX motherboards and buy it. these are my recommendations of cases in different sizes:

CPU cooler: if you get an 8700k get a good cooler which fits in your case, if you get a ryzen 7 2700x keep the stock cooler or change it for something like watercooling(a 240mm AIO should be fine)

ATX:

NZXT h700i

PHANTEKS enthoo evolv atx

phanteks p400s

nzxt s340

nzxt s340 elite

corsair crystal 460x or 570x

phanteks p350x

coolermaster h500p

coolermaster masterbox 5 pro rgb?

cooler master h500

cooler master h500M

nzxt h500

Micro-ATX

NZXT h400i

phanteks enthoo evolv m ATX

inwin 301

corsair air 240?

corsair crystal 280x

fractal design meshify c mini

MINI ITX(it becomes pretty expensive here):

phanteks enthoo evolv MINI ITX

ncase m1 + window panel(you will need to get a small form factor power supply(sfx psu) for this like the corsair sf600)

 nzxt h200i.

thats it, the ncase m1 is expensive but really tiny.

good luck, if you have any questions just tag me, id love to see your build, you can make a build log here on the forum. :)

I use a 1080p monitor so I don't think I need a 1080 Ti in the near future. Better to save a bit and upgrade in the future. I was currently thinking 8700K but then you mentioned that the 2700X comes with a stock cooler which would save me money. I only play a few games so I think ill get a 500GB m.2 or ssd and maybe get more in the future. A 650W or 750W is what I've been looking for since I want headroom for OC and upgrades. For case I've been thinking about a Fractal Design Define C or S or S340 (Elite). Does this sound good?

For 1080p a 2k budget is seriously overkill. Maybe pick up a 1080 or 1070ti and upgrade your monitor with leftover budget.

Edit:

Saw that you have a 1080p monitor. You could drop the 1080Ti down to a 1070Ti and be plenty happy for a while even if you upgrade to a 1440p monitor.

yeah 1080ti is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overkill for this. for 1080p i think you should get a 2700x and 1060. it should be around $1100. a 650 or 750w is fine, for a single gpu config, 650 is more than enough with like 200+w of headroom with a 1080ti.

500gb of m.2 is fine, i would go with ryzen any day(like i did recently buying one :) ) cuz its supported till 2020 so there is room for upgrades and also intel uses toothpaste for the IHS. so i recommend sticking with amd. also the amd ryzen cooler isnt 1000 percent crap like intels, its actually good and it has lighting and stuff, and the best part- more performance, better cooler, support till 2020 AND its cheaper.

@OreoPandas i think going with 1060 and upgrading your monitor to something like a 1440p 144hz is the right move, check out the AOC agon ag241qx, its a 24inch monitor, 1440p, 144hz, a-sync(basically nvidias free G-SYNC, a sync does what free sync does, g sync is actually on a whole new level though, thats why g sync monitors are more expensive. it is a TN panel though, colors aint the best and viewing angles arent good. looking straight on is fine.

I got you a new monitor here. Still 1080p, but 240hz. This monitor looks really nice and 240hz is waaaaaaaaay better than any 4k stuff. Play with it for a week and your eyes won't ever be the same. Anything below 100hz will now look sluggish to you. It's quite small at only 24.5". But it's the perfect size for gaming IMO. It's the freesync model though. Didn't choose the G-Sync model since it's a $100 more expensive
