Need Help!

Go to solution Solved by Hitachtheking,

the pins that have bent may have to do more than just the dead memory channels but also pci Express connections. so it could be the motherboard and the cpu causing things to behave badly

Ok so i have a problem that i need help in diagnostics.
My system specs are as following:

CPU: I7-7700 (non-K, delidded)

MOBO: Gigabyte H270 Gaming 3 (latest BIOS *further explanation about the mobo bellow)

RAM: Kingston 8GB HyperX Black x 2 (One rated at 2133Mhz other at 2400Mhz)

GPU: MSI Gaming X 1070ti

PSU: Cooler Master G650M 80+ Bronze

CC: DeepCool Assassin II

OS: Windows 10 Pro

SSD's: Samsung EVO 860 250GB + A-DATA 240GB SP550

Now i have been having fps drops in BF1 to be exact (having steady 60fps and then dropping to 50 causing a tiny bit of stuttering). Before that i had troubles when the PC would boot up it would take like 4 min despite having a SSD and on top of that it would lag like hell and be unresponsive and need a restart. Only other problem i would have with the PC would be a random freeze here or there and no BSOD.
Right so to clarify about the motherboard needing more explanation above. I had minor trouble with the MOBO since day one but nothing serious (cant rightly say that i remember the small problems from the start). I had another topic debating getting a AIO because the massive DC Assasssin II couldn't cool the cpu well enough (was getting upper 80 C degrees in BF1) so i delidded the CPU using LM and the results are amazing. The cpu hasn't gotten hotter than 57 degrees C. But to get to the main suspect (i think). I work in a tech store and at times i've built systems for my friends and or customers but for purpose of booting and testing LGA 1151 mobo's i used my CPU because i didn't have another CPU on hand, and at times i have cleaned my system i would take the CPU out of the socket clean any TP gunk and place it back in the socket.
When i took out the CPU this last time to delid it i noticed 2 bent contact pins. I moved them back into place BUT mem channels 1 and 2 are now completely dead... (before they would work but i would have to re enter my RAM to get them to work propperly if i had taken the CPU out.) So apart from the DUH moment of yes you need a new motherboard i'm masking you quite probably more experienced guy's if the bent pins and dead mem channel's are a possible culprit for the fps drops and earlier problems?

Any help, tips and whatnot is received with open arms.

My friend had a similare issue and after about 1-2weeks of troubleshooting basically taking the board out of the case and trying all mem channels etc i found out that the muppet that owned the pc before had put 2 standoffs on the case where there was NO HOLES on the motherboard so it was being shorted the whole time while inside the case. Now im not saying that this is your issue with standoffs.. but i suggest you take the Mobo out of the case and test the whole system (yes i know its a pain in the ****) , if the system runs perfectly fine outside the case then i suggest you check each mounting hole on the board to see if there is any wear and tear that might cause the problems.. it could also be which Sata port your using on the board etc ...

To remedy these issues i suggest you Test everything outside the case to be sure that it works outside the case either the same way as before or better or worse ;)

Get in touch once this is tested ;)

I think the cpu is working quite ok. I took it under a magnifier and look at the bottom of it for contact scratches damages and its fine, plus when i delidded it i checked the green pcb for scratches or anything when removing the silicon and it was completely clean, furthermore the cpu acts completely fine (as far as i have seen) as before the pin bending :D

possible, because some games are heavily dependent on memory bandwidth like PUBG.

Hope this will be the final update.

So!

Got a MSI B250 Mortar from work to check the cpu and ram, the board was dead so... lol i guess :D
Re touched the pins on my gigabyte motherboard, went to clean the cpu with alcohol (i went hard core cleaning on it, even the chip underneath) aaaaand all the ram slots are working, the pc is completely stable and i dont know what to say....

Might have gotten the pins "just" right, and cleaned the cpu underneath so it makes solid contact but i guess i solved everything :)
