Sound wise they're same, except what little 25% higher head band clamping force of Pro might cause by compressing ear pads more.

Headband inside cushion is spring steel so it wouldn't mind bending to loosen it.

Also if connector is near Pro's coiled cable could work better, while straight 3m cable needs more managing to keep it from dropping to floot, where it could get damaged.

But if connector is in rear of PC then coiled cable would likely need some extension.

Have you auditioned the DT990 yourself? Do you know what kind of sound you want? Do you have a problem with sparkly treble? I have a DT990 600Ohm Premium and it's an old one, so I find the clamp force to be just right, it doesn't clamp hard on my noggin, but is tight enough to hold the can onto my head even if I were to move about. My DT770 Pro is a tad tighter so there is a little discomfort, but nothing to write home about.

The DT990 600Ohm Premium I have has a rather sparkly treble, so if you get irritated with brighter sounding cans, the DT990 isn't for you. I love mine as I find the sound to be dynamic, sparkly highs, neutral'ish mids with a mild bass boost, what's not to like? I'm something of a treblehead, so I like brighter sounding cans....
