Recently I've gotten a hold of a D-Link DIR850L router and I am having problems configuring the internet. I do the following when trying to setup the new router.

1) Turn off Netgear/Unplug modem.

2) Modem Ethernet goes from old router to new. LAN1 goes to PC.

3) Wait 3 minutes and turn modem back on and wait for it to connect with Cox.

3) Turn on new router and go into config.

4) Go through setup, fails to recognize my internet connection(Netgear did just fine.)

5) Struggle to configure manually.

So after this point I'm bombarded with things I don't know how to configure. My Netgear did it all automatically. The Netgear says the following:

Internet IP:

Dynamic from ISP

DNS address

Get automatically from ISP

MAC address:

Use default address

Now the D link seems to not have any "automatically get from ISP" or default mac address options and you have to configure it manually. It also has an option for a hostname which is default to "dlinkrouter" and I haven't found a hostname option in the Netgear config anywhere. When I try to leave it blank like some sources show, it just comes up with "invalid hostname".

I've read some things about MAC addresses and how you have to copy the original PC's MAC in the settings, but I've never hooked a PC straight up to the modem. The router was immediately installed.

Therefore I am stuck and have no clue what to do so I've come here. Can anyone explain to me what I need to do to get it working? Thanks!
