hi, lately my laptop has been crashing lately with a xiaomi redmi 5 plus plugged in to the usb port with usb tethering turned on. 

OS: Windows 10 OEM x64

original os : windows 8

age of system : year brought november 2013

age of os : last reinstalled jan 2018

system manufaturer: asus 

model: asus x550cc(laptop)

The faulting driver is the network passthrough driver for the phone, NDIS stands for Network Driver Interface Specification.

 

Microsoft changed from the older/less reliable version of rndis to an updated one since 1709, but some hardware doesn't get configured correctly using the new driver. There's no way to roll back to the old driver (it doesn't physically work in 1709 or 1803), but there is a hack that should work for you.

 

This Microsoft forum thread has instructions to create the correct registry keys. Scroll down to the post made by Microsoft NDIS dev lead Jeffrey Tippet. The issue in that post is different, but the fix is the same for all devices that are affected by the change to rndismp6.sys.

I've no idea where my device registry located
