iphone Diy powerbank :)

hey guys,

i want to start a project where i turn a broken iphone 6 into a working powerbank which charges via lightning,

my plan is to dismantle the phone leaving the body only. ill purchase an iphone battery to fit inside. i would like to make it charge via lightning(from the port) and also output power from a lightning plug which comes out of the headphone jack.

 

my real concern is how to wire everything up to make it work without blowing the whole house  

 

is this build possible

 

also if you could recommend any parts i should use please do

There's a bunch of power bank parts you can get on eBay such as the step up regulator and charging circuits, or you can get an all in one board unit. Also an iPhone battery isn't really suited for being soldered to, and neither is the lighting connector unless you can find a break out board. Do you have fine soldering skills?

 

If I'm honest, it'll be a hell of a lot easier to buy a diy power bank shell (including the electronics) for $5 and source the 18650 cells it needs. That is a hell of a lot easier, more effective, and probably cheaper than the route you wish to embark on. 

 

Edit:Also, how do you plan on delivering power out of a lightning port? Lighting cables terminate in a male USB A, which is not great at charging things.

making a DIY powerbank is already not easi when you have no real knowledge about it, making one out of an iphone battery makes this even harder and wanting to use the lightning connector brings this to the level where you can just forget about it and save yourself much time and hassle.

You could even get the cells for free if you know where to look or know the right people.

ok thats a good idea its just i wish to do it in a iphone shell also i was planning on delivering power to the phone with a lightning cable coming out of the shell and charge it from a lightning female port
