Did you try running any anti-virus or anti- malware? Do you know of anything you did recently that might have caused this?

It kind of sounds like a rouge process that just fills up the memory.

Cant install or run any kind of anti virus software not even the on board anti virus will work at all ive run into this issue before on another HDD. But this is the first time ive had memory usage issue. It just one day vanished then after a storm took out the power happened it reappeared then vanished after the power went out again

If the RAM fills up too quickly for you to do anything you'll have to try booting off something else. If it happened on another HDD then beside the HDD was the rest of the hardware the same?

I'm just asking if all the hardware has been the same since then. I'm asking because it's possible you have a bad stick of RAM.

If the same issue occurred on a different drive then the problem is either an identical software issue or it's hardware.

If the issue occurs immediately upon booting up then pull a stick of RAM then if the issue hasn't changed try pulling the other stick (and replacing the first one). Hopefully your 8GB is 2x4GB. Or you have a spare 8GB stick. If I'm wrong this was just a quick way to see if the RAM is physically OK. Next if we can say it isn't any kind of malware which can eat RAM then it might be an OS or driver conflict that just keeps shoving data into memory infinitely until it crashes.

I have 4x4gb ran sticks an i tried rearranging it. Im guessing its just the OS of windows 8.1 causing issues as wells as a virus. So im just biding my time for 5 months after i get new parts then do a full reinstall of the os hopefully itll get rid of that issue. I have all 16 gigs of ram

i have15.8 GB of Free ram even when i have task manager opened up saying 80% memory used up

Also i get now crash message just a frozen screen with the mouse not moving at all

Don't know why I thought you said 8GB. It's fine though if you already tested it physically. I'm thinking it's something in the OS then but that's gonna be hard to diagnose if task manager isn't telling you want's using the RAM.

If it's a BSOD does it give you a crash code to look up?

Did you try right clicking and Run as Administrator? Tasks like this sometimes require admin privileges and the system doesn't always grant you it by default.

What platform are you running? Like socket/chipset.

The chipset isn't that old. I'd consider a hardware incompatibility if you said something like LGA1366 or x58 chipset because I've been told some people have Windows 10 working on them.

If this issue just showed up one day and not immediately following installing the OS then you probably have something undesirable installed in the OS. Continuing to run the system could be dangerous if it is infected because the infectious software could include a key logger or other forms of spyware. If the system won't let you install anti-virus you should boot off a different drive and tell the anti-virus/anti-malware to scan the drive we believe to have something infectious on it. If it has something then we should get some sort of result.
