Step 1. Delet Nexus Mod Manager

Step 2. Download Mod Manager 2.0

Step 3. ???

Step 4. Enjoy modding.

/ only half sarcasm.

I believe Nexus is making a different mod manager (Vortex), together with the creator of Mod Manager 1. The creator of Mod Manager 1 (and creator of MM2 too) thankfully made the code open source and I have always preferred that program because of its broad options.

You may want to follow a series to get an idea of how to install this program:

I know this is not exactly an answer to your question, but rather a suggestion towards something I myself am more familiar and comfortable with.

You can, but the reason you would want a mod manager is if you want to uninstall a certain mod you need to retrieve the old file without a manager.

e.g. if you want to retextures the tomatoes in the game, you download a mod that has a "tomatoes_texture" file in it which replaces the original one, but if you don't like that one (anymore) you need to get back the original texture, while with a mod manager you can simply disable the mod (or delete it) and you're back to the original.

You don't need a mod manager, it is however very much recommended if you take it somewhat serious.

No.

There are a lot of different mods, some that are just .esp and .bsa that are standalone and need to be pasted in the 'data' folder of your Skyrim install, but also mods that replace meshes or textures, etc.

Any good set up mod is something you can drop into your data folder and it's installed (possibly with replacing some original files).

You can do that for some 'quick and dirty'-modding.
