Boot windows from hard disk

Hey guys. 

 

I'm upgrading my motherboard and cpu, keeping the hard disk,psu and GPU. I wanted to know if i could boot my windows from my hard disk?

The windows that I had before upgrading.

Yeah of course you can  Linus have the habit to jump with an SSD from a station to another so there is no problem. The only difference is the fact that he use SSD and you have an HDD.

But it is worth to mention the fact that windows might detect the change and it will ask you if you have upgraded your PC. Your naturally answer will be yes and everything will be fine.

Yes, you can boot from an existing drive.

Yes, if its Win10. Maybe if its anything else. Older Windowses don't like mobo changes.

The only difference will be in drivers (loaded for new hardware), nothing else.

And about win10 vs older systems - I moved drives even in XP era, then Vista, 7 etc. Works in 98% and for rest 2% - there are tools that can help with dissimilar hardware that makes problems (and fix takes about few seconds).

In one case, for better stability, I removed some old drivers (using ghostbuster tool).

Win10 should handle those once you have internet connection.
