Hiho folks.

I bought a computer around 4 years ago. These last 3 months I've had problems booting it properly.
I thought replacing the CMOS battery would do the trick, but with no luck. Sometimes it won't boot at all, sometimes I need to hold down the power button for like 30-60 seconds before it turns on. Latest addition is that it my graphics card isn't recognised. This happened after a BIOS corruption. I have updated BIOS and reinstalled Windows, but with no luck. The fans are spinning on the gfx but it's not recognised in either BIOS or device manager.

I am thinking this is either a motherboard or a PSU problem. Any ideas on what is most likely?

Thanks a lot :)

Sounds like it's probably the motherboard.

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.

if your board has other pci slots try those for your gpu and see if that works, try it without the graphics card and see if it can boot. it sounds like something is wrong with the board to me. Once you can boot check to make sure you are running the latest drivers and the latest version of windows, not the most likely fix but you never know.

Replaced my PSU. It was the problem after all.

Too bad it took my GPU along with it... or so it seems. I haven’t been able to test it in a different PC. The fans are spinning and the lights are on, but I can’t find it in device manager.

I suppose it’s most likely that my faulty PSU is the root of this rather than a broken PCI slot? Unfortunately, I don’t have other slots to test on my MB.

The PSU was a Seasonic SS-750HT by the way. I don’t know if it has some anti-surge technology or whatever you call it.
